Week 4: Seesaw (Selection Rubric)

I asked my CT this week how she communicated with her students' parents. She uses Seesaw and showed me some of the posts she puts on there, how she can send/receive individual messages and the other benefits of the website. She can add photos, videos, drawings, notes, links etc. She mostly posts photos from what is going on that day. Here is an example of the selection of things you can post to Seesaw:

Selection Rubric: Web 2.0 Resources

Title: Seesaw
Source/Location: www.seesaw.com or found in the app store
Grade Level: Any
Subject Area: Any

Instructional Strategies: This tool can be used as an app or an online tool and would need to have extensive teaching before students could go on their own. Students would need to learn proper conduct, the location of each tool within Seesaw, the proper usage of each tool, examples of what they can share on Seesaw etc. This is not impossible but is doable if Seesaw is slowly introduced to students.

Brief Description: An app or online website that is used as a form of communication between classmates and their teacher, or communication between the class and parents. The student's daily school life can be shared in seconds with parents at home. Parents are allowed to comment on items that are shared with them or send messages to the teacher.

Standards/Outcomes/Objectives: Students will need to understand how to properly use the app/online website by knowing how/what and when to share.
Pre-requisites: Students will need to be able to read, navigate a device without much teacher's assistant and use their creativity to utilize the app well.

Strengths: Allows students to be creative and share their work with their parents/classmates/teachers instantaneously. The quality of the app is excellent and it offers many different forms of communication whether it is by photo, link, video etc. Students' work can follow them throughout their year and even onto their future years of school if possible.

Weakness: Can be confusing if students aren't properly trained and some families might not have access to technology to view Seesaw and remain in contact with the class.

Limitations: Content from students' school year is deleted once it is over unless a fee is paid to keep it.

Special Features: Students can view other students work and reflect as a whole. (If teacher allows that option to be open) Students use this tool to properly further their education rather than having it as an obstacle.

Example of my teacher's post on Seesaw. She posts the "Sneak Peak of the Week" for the students' families to see. All the yellow marks are me covering up names that shouldn't be seen.

Comments

  1. I love seeing Seesaw being used! I have seen this tool being used heavily in my classroom as well which is so awesome to see that communication piece fully there. My CT is the Seesaw trainer at their school and puts on professional development and is the person who anyone in the school can call and ask questions to regarding Seesaw. I have learned so much about it and just love it.
